Isopropylhydroxylamine solid is an important organic synthesis intermediate and specialty chemical. Its chemical structure can be regarded as the product of a hydrogen atom in a hydroxylamine (NH ₂ OH) molecule being replaced by an isopropyl group (- CH (CH3) ₂), and it usually appears as a white to off white crystalline solid at room temperature and pressure.

Isopropyl hydroxylamine solid belongs to the class of secondary alkyl hydroxylamine compounds, with the chemical formula C ∝ H ₉ NO. Its molecular structure contains an isopropyl group (CH (CH3) ₂) connected to a hydroxylamine group (- NHOH). Its solid form may appear as white or beige crystalline powder, and its specific appearance is affected by purity, preparation process, and storage conditions.

1. Physical properties

Solubility: Easy to dissolve in water, the aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, and stable within the pH range of 7-11.

Stability: The chemical properties are stable at room temperature and pressure, but oxidation and decomposition may occur at high temperatures (such as above 570 ℃) or long-term exposure to light and air, producing by-products such as acetaldehyde and dialkylamines.

Volatility: It has volatility, with a gas-liquid ratio of 1:4, which makes it highly efficient in deoxygenation applications.

Reductability: As a strong reducing agent, it can effectively remove dissolved oxygen, and its oxidation products (such as dimethyl ketone) can still react with oxygen to form a chain deoxygenation mechanism.

Inhibition of polymerization: In free radical polymerization reactions, it can inhibit chain growth and prevent excessive polymer molecular weight, commonly used for polymerization reaction control in rubber production.

Main application areas

1. Industrial production

Rubber industry: As a polymerization inhibitor and end polymerization inhibitor, it is widely used in the synthesis process of styrene butadiene rubber and nitrile rubber to ensure stable product quality.

Water treatment: As a deoxidizer, it is used in the water supply system of thermal power generation to remove dissolved oxygen through chemical reduction reactions, prevent boiler corrosion, and its volatility helps to protect furnace scale.

Organic synthesis: As an intermediate, it participates in key reactions in industries such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, dyes, etc., such as synthesizing specific structures of drug molecules or functional materials.

2. Special fields

Food and Drugs: Due to their low toxicity, some low purity products can be used as food additives or auxiliary reactions in drug synthesis.

Biochemical research: used as experimental reagents for studying free radical reaction mechanisms or constructing redox reaction models.

Safety and Storage

1. Safety: Compared with traditional oxygen scavengers such as hydrazine, isopropylhydroxylamine has significantly reduced toxicity, but direct skin contact or inhalation of vapors should still be avoided. Protective gloves, goggles, and gas masks should be worn during operation.

2. Storage conditions: It should be sealed and stored in a cool, dry, and dark place to prevent decomposition caused by high temperature or discoloration caused by light exposure. Long term storage may cause discoloration due to trace oxidation, but it does not affect basic performance.
